# Engagement Matrix

> Segment users by frequency and depth of engagement in Klaritics to identify power users, casual users, and at-risk users. Pin to dashboards and set alerts.

Engagement Matrix in Klaritics segments your user base by how often they engage and how deeply they interact with your product. Instead of a single engagement score, you get a grid that makes it easy to spot power users, casual visitors, and at-risk segments that may need attention.

## When to use Engagement Matrix

Use Engagement Matrix when you want to:

* Identify your most engaged users and what sets them apart
* Find users who are active but shallow, and may benefit from deeper feature exposure
* Spot at-risk users before they churn

## Build an engagement matrix

<Steps>
  <Step title="Choose the engagement events">
    Select the events that represent meaningful activity, such as logins, feature usage, or content interactions.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set frequency and depth axes">
    Define what counts as frequency, such as sessions per week, and what counts as depth, such as events per session or features touched.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Apply filters">
    Narrow the matrix to a specific time range, platform, or user property so the segments are relevant to your current focus.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Review segments">
    Examine each quadrant to understand the size and behavior of each group. Click any segment to see the list of users it contains.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Save and share

Save the engagement matrix configuration and pin it to a dashboard as a widget. Set alerts on the widget so Klaritics notifies you when the size of a key segment, such as power users or at-risk users, changes significantly.

<Tip>
  Use the user lists from each segment as [Cohorts](/analysis/cohorts) to analyze their behavior in funnels, retention, and other analyses.
</Tip>

## Next steps

* [Cohorts](/analysis/cohorts) to turn engagement segments into reusable groups
* [Retention](/analysis/retention) to see if high-engagement users stay longer
