# Manage Dashboards

> View, edit, lay out, duplicate, and delete Klaritics dashboards. Available actions follow your effective dashboard permission.

Each dashboard in the listing shows the actions your **effective dashboard permission** allows.

| Effective permission | View | Edit | Share | Duplicate | Delete |
| :- | :-: | :-: | :-: | :-: | :-: |
| **Full Access** | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ |
| **Editor** | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ | ✗ | ✗ |
| **Viewer** | ✓ | ✗ | ✗ | ✗ | ✗ |

See [Permissions](/dashboards/permissions) for how effective permission is calculated.

## View

Opening a dashboard in view mode makes the configuration **read-only**. You cannot:

* Change the dashboard title
* Change the description
* Add charts
* Remove charts
* Modify the dashboard layout
* Modify chart configuration through the dashboard

You consume the dashboard's content according to your **chart** permissions — which are evaluated separately from your dashboard permission.

***

## Edit

Edit mode lets you change:

* Dashboard title
* Dashboard description
* Which charts are on the dashboard — add existing charts you have access to, or remove charts
* The dashboard layout

<Warning>
  You can edit an existing chart from within a dashboard **only if** you hold the required chart permission for that chart.
</Warning>

**Example**

A user holds `Dashboard 1 = Editor` and `Chart 1 = Viewer`. They can edit Dashboard 1 — retitle it, rearrange it, add and remove charts — but cannot edit Chart 1.

<Note>
  Adding an existing chart to a dashboard requires access to that chart. Creating a **new** chart requires chart Full Access.
</Note>

***

## Duplicate

Only a user with Full Access can duplicate a dashboard. The duplicate:

* Receives a new unique dashboard ID
* Uses a default name such as `Dashboard 1 - Copy`
* Is owned by the user who performed the duplication
* Is **Private** by default
* Does **not** inherit the original dashboard's sharing permissions

Duplicating is useful when forking a dashboard for a different team, time period, or experiment. The same principle applies when duplicating charts.

***

## Delete

Deleting shows a confirmation dialog that clearly identifies the dashboard being deleted. On confirmation, the dashboard is removed from the project.

<Warning>
  Deleting a dashboard does **not** delete the charts it contained. Those charts remain available in [Saved Charts](/charts/overview) unless you delete them explicitly.
</Warning>

***

## Enforcement

Action visibility in the UI is not the only control. Every permission-sensitive operation is validated at the backend and API level using the same model, so a Viewer cannot call an edit API, an Editor cannot call the delete API, and a private dashboard cannot be reached through a manually constructed URL.
